MELAKA: The Melaka state government has completed a land reclamation agreement to build three new islands in the RM43 billion Melaka Gateway project.

The Chief Minister’s Office said today that the agreement with real estate developer KAJ Development Sdn Bhd, signed in October 2017, expired on October 3.

A termination notice was sent to the company today after it failed to complete the 246ha project, according to the government statement, Bernama reported.

“The company is also obliged to return the project site, as of the termination notice issued by the state government.

“Therefore, all matters arising regarding the Melaka Gateway project site should be communicated directly with the Melaka state government,” it said in a statement.

Melaka Gateway is a mixed development project worth RM43 billion, consisting of three new islands.

It was said to include an international cruise terminal large enough to host four cruise ships at the same time. Other facilities would have included a yacht marina, luxury condominiums, bungalows with a private marina, tourist ecoparks and theme parks.

A new deepwater port was also to be built with the help of three Chinese companies, according to press reports.
