The 11/11 sale is coming up and I’ve already added a few things in my cart for the big day. According to Amanz, there is a web browser extension called AliPrice that is meant to help me pick better deals, not only for 11/11 sale, but also for other days when I am shopping online. But does it really help improve your shopping experience?
AliPrice boasts of being able to check the price history of an item on sale, find the same variant of an item, and help you choose the best one, as well as compare product reviews. It also allows you to download the extension not only in Google Chrome, but also in Yandex, Firefox, and Opera Beta.
How to use the extension
- Visit Aliprice.com on Google Chrome, Yandex, Firefox, or Opera Beta
- Press the button “Install free extension”
- Then you will find the list of online stores (seen in the picture above)
- Click on the store where you would like to use the extension
- You will be taken to a page for the AliPrice browser extension for that specific store
- Add the extension to your browser
- If you want to add an extension for another online store, repeat the process again
- Now you can visit your preferred online store
- AliPrice will automatically show you how to navigate the extension, such as how to track the price
- AliPrice is also available through the mobile application (iOS, Android)
I started to check the price history of some products. The current price of the popular Apple Airpods Pro is RM949, which is still cheaper than its usual price of RM1,099. Lazada would be selling the Airpods Pro for RM879 during the 11/11 sale.
According to the price history feature on AliPrice, the previous 10.10 sale only brought the price down to RM929. But strangely, according to our live blog for 10.10, the Apple Airpods Pro were on sale for RM818, much lower than the next price of RM879.
This means two things: the price of the Airpods won’t be worth it like you paid for them last month, and the AliPrice feature isn’t entirely accurate. However, the Airpods Pro price at Shopee, in fact, reflected a low price of RM799 during 10.10.
AliPrice doesn’t work too well for things with multiple variants either. For example, SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD comes in various storage capacities. The lowest storage capacity, 250GB, shows that its current price is RM330, but it will be RM319 during the 11/11 sale.
According to AliPay, the highest price for the 250GB SSD was RM399 on October 19. Whereas if you choose something like the 1TB variant, which currently costs RM713 and will sell for RM659 during the sale, AliPrice will still give you the same reading it gave for the cheaper SanDisk variant.
Other “features” of AliPrice are also missing, such as finding the same type of item and comparing product reviews. It is supposed to display information about the products we want in the extension itself (as seen above).
But instead of searching for the products I want via the little extension tab, it redirected me to a new item page, which is something I could have done myself with Lazada’s search bar. It really didn’t allow me to have the same features as promised, and I couldn’t find any product reviews on the extension tab either.
Since almost everything related to AliPrice is not very useful, I think it is really not worth downloading it. Although the price history feature itself is unpredictable, it made me more aware of how prices can change so quickly.
But if you’re still looking for an easy way to search for the best deals, don’t worry! We’ll be posting a live blog with the best 11.11 deals, so stay tuned.
