IPOH: Perak Pakatan Harapan has commended Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad and the state administration for their maturity following the presentation of the state budget.

The President of Perak DAP, Nga Kor Ming (Photo) said the budget reflected some political reforms after a consensus was reached between the Saarani and Pakatan assembly members.

“For the first time in history, Pakatan and the newly appointed Perak Mentri Besar reached a consensus on several things, which we see as institutional reform in the state.

“We agreed to have an equivalent allocation of RM200,000 annually for the 59 state assemblymen.

“We also agreed to allow representatives of the Opposition to be permanent members of the district action committee, focus groups and disaster management committees,” he said at a press conference after the budget presentation here on Wednesday (December 16).

“It was also agreed that the president of the Public Accounts Commission would be appointed by the Opposition,” he added.

Nga said that the opposition leader would also be officially recognized and would receive subsidies, emoluments and facilities.

“This will allow us to be more effective with our check and balance role,” he said.

Nga said it was a positive change for the system of state and parliamentary democracy.

“It is not only to ensure the well-being of the people, but also the political stability of both sides.

“We will continue to play an effective and constructive role,” he said.

“If there is any discrepancy, we will criticize it. There is no compromise,” he added.
