KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The support shown for the 2021 Budget that allowed its approval at the policy stage is a testament to the maturity of parliamentarians in prioritizing the well-being, safety and well-being of the people above other issues.
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said supporting the nation’s largest and most important budget will now allow the government to implement next year’s spending plans in an orderly and smooth manner.
“Alhamdulillah, I am grateful that the Dewan Rakyat approved the 2021 Budget today. I would like to thank all the parliamentarians, especially the members of Perikatan Nasional, Barisan Nasional, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS),” He said in a statement on Thursday (November 26).
After two weeks of debate and four days of liquidation sessions by the relevant ministers in the Dewan Rakyat, the Supply Bill or Budget 2021 was approved today at the political stage.
It was approved by a majority vote after several MPs tried to initiate the block vote failed when only 13 MPs stood up, less than the 15 required.
The budget, the first for the Perikatan Nasional government, was presented by Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz on November 6, and 82 MPs spoke during the November 9-19 debate.
An allocation totaling RM322.5bil was proposed under the budget, making it the largest in the country’s history, primarily to help the government manage and cushion the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on people. and the country.
Muhyiddin said that the position taken by MPs showed that they supported Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah’s decree of politicking to allow the budget to pass without interruption, particularly when the nation was struggling with Covid-19.
He also congratulated Tengku Zafrul and the Ministry of Finance who had worked hard to complete the settlement of the 2021 Budget with improvements for the well-being of the people.
“These improvements have taken into account the views of various parties, including members of Parliament who participated in the debates on the Supply Bill 2021,” he said.
The prime minister said that the Perikatan government was always open to opinions and criticism.
It also showed that the government listened to people’s complaints and responded to opinions on the measures needed to revive the country’s economy that had been badly affected by the pandemic, Muhyiddin added.
