“ We didn’t know he could shoot! ”: Bruno Fernandes reveals that Manchester United’s dressing room was shocked by Aaron Wan Bissaka’s stun against Newcastle as the midfielder praises the full-back for being ‘more positive’
Bruno Fernandes revealed that he was shocked after Manchester United teammate Aaron Wan Bissaka’s goal against Newcastle when he said: “We didn’t know he could shoot!”
United won their second Premier League game of the season against Steve Bruce’s side despite the worst possible start after Luke Shaw’s own goal in the second minute.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team responded quickly as Harry Maguire topped the visitor level at St James’ Park before Wan Bissaka stole the headlines with a stunner.
Bruno Fernandes revealed he was surprised after Aaron Wan Bissaka’s goal against Newcastle
Fernandes said ‘we didn’t know he could shoot’ after the defender scored a rare goal
Newcastle’s defense finally collapsed when Fernandes amended a saved penalty early in the second half and a goal from the right-back and Marcus Rashford finished off a resounding victory.
After the game, Fernandes said United players were unaware that Wan Bissaka could hit the ball that well.
‘[We were so happy] Because we didn’t know it could shoot! the midfielder told MUTV. “So it’s hard for us to believe that he can score because we never see him shoot.
“We were talking about that now in the locker room and asking him why we were all thinking he wanted to cross and he makes a bad ball and scores.
But I’m happy for him, he deserved the goal and we always ask for it. Be more positive, be more in the box, try to improve because you have very good qualities.
“Everybody knows he is a defensive player and everything, but he needs to show that he is more than a defensive player and I think he has the qualities to show it.”
Before the international break, United were beaten 6-1 by Tottenham at Old Trafford and the Portuguese midfielder insisted such a result cannot happen again.
‘What happened against Tottenham cannot happen again. We play for such a great club and such a great team, ‘he said.
This club deserves better than that. Everyone should be better, starting with me, first I need to look at myself and then what the group needs to improve.
“Today was perfect, after that loss. I think we have to keep improving, not conceding goals, as I said before, and keep scoring ”.
