BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Oct. 25 (Xinhua): The Brunei government has clarified that the attire during the late Prince Haji ‘Abdul’ Azim’s mourning period is customary.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the citizens and residents of Brunei are in mourning for seven days as a sign of shared grief and sympathy for the Royal Family’s sadness following the passing of Prince Haji ‘Abdul’ Azim on Saturday.

“In this regard, the Prime Minister’s Office announces that the attire during the entire period of mourning is the usual,” the statement said.

“Viral news on some social networks that refer to the use of a white band on a songkok, white head scarves and white armbands during the period of mourning, are not true and without foundation,” the statement added.

The statement also said that social and family activities, such as weddings and birthdays and the like, as well as sports and recreational activities, including hiking, are allowed without containing entertainment elements that are contrary to the ethic of mourning.

Prince Haji ‘Abdul’ Azim of Brunei died on Saturday at the age of 38.
