BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Sept. 27 (Borneo Bulletin / ANN): Members of the family business’s drug trafficking ring were indicted in court and prosecutors brought charges against six of them with the death penalty on Saturday (Sept. September).
Ahmad Haji Tamit and his wife Maskunah Wahab, along with their children Isamuddin, Mohammad Saifuddin and Siti Izzatul Munirah and her husband Jakaria Ahad, were charged with two offenses under section 3A of the Drug Abuse Act, Chapter 27.
Chief Magistrate Pengiran Masni binti Pengiran Haji Bahar heard that the defendants allegedly possessed 18,9,943 kilograms of methylamphetamine for trafficking purposes.
Methylamphetamine was reportedly found in the vicinity of the back of a house in Jalan Junjongan.
The complaints also state that they had in their possession 532.44 grams of class A drug methylamphetamine in bottles, for trafficking, also found near the same neighborhood.
The defendants live in houses in that neighborhood.
In addition, Isamuddin faces a single charge of possession, for the purpose of trafficking, of 54.1 grams of methylamphetamine inside a black plastic bag in the vicinity of a house in Jalan Junjongan. The crime carries between 20 and 30 years in prison with mandatory lashing of 15 strokes.
Siti Izzatul Munirah and Jakaria were also charged with possessing the proceeds of crime against Section 3 of the 2012 Criminal Asset Recovery Order, which is a house estimated at 80,000 BND and more than 100,000 BND. They are also accused of concealing true ownership of a vehicle by registering the car in the name of a third party.
Siti Izzatul Munirah also faces a charge of possession of more than 50 pieces of gold jewelry that are allegedly proceeds of crime.
Deputy Prosecutors Dayangku Didi-Nuraza binti Pengiran Abdul Latiff and Muhammad Qamarul Affyian bin Abdul Rahman informed the court that the seized drugs should be sent to the Department of Scientific Services for analysis.
The prosecution urged the court that the accused be sent to preventive detention considering the seriousness of the accusations. The court ordered that they be sent to preventive detention and postponed the case until October 10.
