BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Ministry of Health (MoH) will launch a national survey starting Monday (May 4) to extend Covid-19 (coronavirus) surveillance among Brunei citizens and residents.

The survey, which will take place over a week, is open to anyone who visits the selected health centers where the survey is conducted.

The survey involves taking blood samples that are similar to a home blood sugar test. The result will be available in 15 minutes.

These details were revealed by the Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohdd Isham bin Haji Jaafar at a press conference in the city on Sunday (May 3)

“If a person tests positive for the virus antibody after the survey, it means that the person has been exposed to the virus without their knowledge. This reveals that there is some form of community spread. Then we have to come up with a different strategy on how to manage it, “he said.

Brunei reported that there were no new cases of Covid-19 on Sunday morning with the national case count at 138, marking the 13th consecutive day with no new cases since April 19.

According to the Brunei Health Ministry, two more recoveries were recorded on Saturday, bringing the total number of recovered cases to 126.

The number of active cases still being treated at the National Isolation Center decreased to 11.

Two patients are still in critical condition and both require extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and respiratory assistance. The rest are in stable condition.

There has been one death as a result of the Covid-19 in Brunei thus far.

The ministry added that 56 people are still in quarantine so far and that 2,519 people have completed the quarantine period. Some 13,924 laboratory tests have been performed for the virus. – Borneo / Asian News Network Newsletter
