Brunei: a nation mourns the loss of a prince

Bandar Seri Begawan (October 24): the son of the Sultan of Brunei, Prince Haji ‘Abdul’ Azim of Brunei (Photo) passed away on Saturday at 10.08 am, it was confirmed by Brunei state broadcaster Radio Television Brunei in an official announcement and also the Borneo Newsletter.

The young prince was 38 years old.

“Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah’s son, Prince Hj Abdul Azim, passed away on Rabi ul awal 17 (October 24, 2020) at 10:08 am local time. The funeral will take place during Asr prayers tonight” said the ad, which was announced in Brunei Malay.

Fourth in line to succeed the Brunei throne, he was the second prince born to the Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah.

A Brunei source reportedly said: “His Royal Highness Prince Hj Abdul Azim had been in the hospital for a while and his death was announced by radio this morning.”

The source added that the country is in mourning for seven days and everyone is supposed to wear white.

Instructions sent to citizens, according to local reports, read: “Muslim women should wear white tudung or headscarves, and non-Muslims should wear a white 3” wide bracelet. “

His Wikipedia page read: “Prince Azim passed away on October 24, 2020 after a long illness. The official announcement of his passing was announced later on the day of his passing.”

The news also appeared on Twitter accounts and many people shared their sincere condolences.

Born in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei, on July 29, 1982, he studied at the International School Brunei, Raffles Institution and Oxford Brookes University.

According to Borneo Newsletter, the late prince was buried in the Royal Mausoleum in the capital today after the Asar Prayers.

The people and residents of Brunei are required to raise the national flag at half mast starting today and begin a seven-day period of mourning.
