GEORGE TOWN: General Operations Force (GOF) officer Sjn Norihan Tari (photo right), who was injured during a shootout with Thai smugglers, has been released from Penang Hospital.

It was learned that Sjn Norihan, 39, was discharged from the hospital around 9:30 am on Sunday (December 6) and accompanied by his wife.

GOF 3rd Battalion Commanding Officer Supt Rosman Kasman said that Sjn Norihan and his wife arrived safely at their camp in Bidor, Perak, around noon and received a hero’s welcome.

“He looks healthy and informed me that he wanted to be on active duty as soon as possible,” he said when contacted.

Superintendent Rosman said Deputy Superintendent Mazlan Ismail and his wife Anita Maria Othman, as well as senior officers from the 3rd Battalion, were also present to greet Sjn Norihan’s arrival.

He said that during the ceremony, he had presented a Malaysian flag to Sjn Norihan as a symbolic honor for his sacrifice in protecting the sovereign country on the border.

Also featured was a performance of War Dance, a Senoi Praaq tradition of the 3rd Battalion’s scout platoon.

Also present during the ceremony was Sarjan Baharuddin Ramli’s widow, Relow Ko.

Norihan and Sjn Baharuddin, 59, were conducting intelligence work on the Malaysian-Thai border in the early hours of November 24, when two groups of at least 13 smugglers attacked and opened fire.

Sjn Baharuddin died while Sjn Norihan was seriously injured.
