IPOH: A 25-year-old man who was taken on a terror trip by his assailants jumped out of a moving car near Taiping despite being handcuffed and blindfolded.
In the incident on Wednesday (December 30), the man jumped from his Honda HRV driven by one of the men after hearing the sounds of morning prayers at a mosque.
Perak Tengah, Acting Deputy Assistant to the OCPD, Nik Rosdi Nik Yahya, said a day earlier, the victim’s wife had received a call from her husband’s phone at around 9:30 p.m., and the person on the other side testified that her husband had been involved in an accident at Pusing. , near Batu Gajah, and requested RM50,000 as compensation for hitting the other car.
“Then the line was disconnected, and shortly thereafter, the victim’s wife received another call from the same person who gave her an account number and lowered the figure to RM20,000 this time, before the line was disconnected,” he said. .
DSP Nik Rosdi said the victim’s wife went out to look for her husband at the aforementioned locations, but was unable to find him, and filed a report at the Parit police station around 1.40 a.m. Wednesday.
He said that efforts to locate the victim and his car were futile, as no accident reports were filed in Perak Tengah or nearby districts.
However, he said that at 7.35 am, they received a call from the Taiping Police Station, stating that an injured man, with handcuffs, was taken to the police station, after he was found inside a mosque.
“Subsequent investigations revealed that the man was the same person, and he told police that while he was driving his car in Teluk Perang in Parit at around 8:30 pm on December 29, he was stopped by a car with four men inside.
“He said that three men got out of the car, and two of them introduced themselves as police personnel and told him that they wanted to carry out checks on both the victim and his vehicle.
“The victim obeyed and cooperated, but moments later he was handcuffed, blindfolded and pushed into his own car,” he added.
DSP Nik Rosdi added that the three men also got into the car, with the other man following the Honda in the other vehicle.
They drove for a long time and the victim was beaten with a stick and his personal belongings.
“Realizing the opportunity to escape upon hearing prayers from a mosque, he opened the car door and jumped out before calling for help,” he added.
DSP Nik Rosdi was hoping that anyone with information would come forward to help, and also if they spot a Honda with license plate number AKC 939 to alert the police immediately.
The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for causing injury during a robbery.
Efforts are underway to locate the four suspects.
