Bill to modify safety and health at work, law presented for first reading

KUALA LUMPUR: Amendments to the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Act 1994 which, among other things, aim to extend the application of the law to all workplaces, have been presented today for first reading at Dewan Rakyat.

The amendments also led to increased penalties for employers who fail to ensure the safety, health and well-being of employees in the workplace.

Among the proposed amendments is an increase of the penalty from RM 50,000 to RM 500,000 under Section 19, for offenses that include failure to formulate safety and health policies by employers.

The amendment under Section 23 of the bill will see an increase in the fine, from RM20,000 to RM200,000, for those who violate the provisions of Sections 21 and 22 related to the manufacturer’s duty to plant and materials. in the workplace.

Meanwhile, Saravanan also submitted the Factory and Machinery Bill (Repeal) 2020 for first reading.

He said the second reading of the two bills is scheduled to take place during the current session.
