Biden says ‘gimmicks’ at the polls are the only way he could lose the US election

ERIE, Pennsylvania (Reuters) – Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden said on Saturday that “the only way” he could lose to President Donald Trump was through “trickery” before clarifying that he would accept the election result.

Biden encouraged potential voters at a must-win Pennsylvania battlefield campaign parade, telling them “make sure you vote because the only way we’re losing this is because of the polling places.”

Biden referenced what he said were Trump’s attempts to discourage voting, including questioning the security of mail-in ballots and encouraging potentially intimidating Republican election watchers.

When asked directly, Trump has repeatedly avoided confirming that he would accept the election result.

Before leaving the state, Biden told reporters that his comments were “taken out of context a bit” and added that “I will accept the outcome of this election, period.”

Biden has previously said that his biggest concern was that Trump would try to “steal” the victory. His campaign has recruited hundreds of lawyers and volunteers to avoid chaos on Election Day.

The Trump campaign has accused Biden of lying and stoking fear.

Election experts have been on the brink of the process, given the chaos and legal challenges during the primary elections held amid the novel coronavirus outbreak.
