SUNGAI BESAR (Bernama): The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs has detected cheap face masks, some as low as 50 sen each, that do not meet established quality standards.
His deputy minister, Datuk Rosol Wahid, advised consumers to be careful when buying this type of mask to avoid the risk of exposure to the hazard.
He said inspection of what was said to be a three-layer face mask sold at 50 sen each found the material used to be questionable.
“It is dusty and it can affect the health of users,” he told reporters after officiating the closure of the 2020 consumer and merchant tour program at Sekinchan here on Wednesday (September 16).
He said the mask was being analyzed by the Chemistry Department.
He also did not rule out the possibility of regulations being introduced to ensure that only face masks that meet established standards for consumer safety are allowed.
In August, the government set the maximum price for masks at RM1 each.
Meanwhile, commenting on the Mega Sales Program and the Buy Malaysia Products Campaign, he said there was an increase in public awareness to revive the local economy affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Rosol also said that consumers should not worry when buying locally made products, as the quality is comparable to that of international products or even better.
