Best Western Hotels & Resorts previously released improved cleaning protocols and breakfast standards in response to the coronavirus pandemic, but on Thursday announced a new, stricter program based on guidance provided by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. . Disinfection stations or wipes will be available in all hotels. Unnecessary items will be removed from the rooms, including accent pillows, bedclothes, paper notebooks, and pens.

The company has also temporarily changed its breakfast offerings with enhanced “Grab & Go” pre-packaged food and beverage options, and will allow hotels to offer a served or pre-plated breakfast to minimize guests’ contact with food, drinks and surfaces, and cross contamination. Utilities, including gyms, swimming pools, and meeting rooms, will be cleaned on a scheduled basis and will be disinfected overnight with electrostatic mist, ozone generators, or ultraviolet devices.

Additionally, hotel employees will follow strict guidelines, such as the use of personal protective equipment, following strict and frequent hand washing protocols. Cleaning and laundry staff will wear gloves and masks.

Best Western said it will update the program regularly based on the latest standards and recommendations from government agencies and industry groups.
