Danny Cowley felt sympathy for the former Lincoln City club as Liverpool rampaged at Sincil Bank.
The Imps trailed 4-0 at halftime in the Carabao Cup tie when Xherdan Shaqiri, Takumi Minamino and Curtis Jones (2) scored.
Minamino scored in the first minute of the second half before Tayo Edun retired one. Marko Grujic added a sixth, but Lincoln showed impressive resolve with Lewis Montsman making it 6-2.
Speaking at halftime on Sky Sports, Cowley said the Premier League champions are practically unstoppable.
“It’s been a tough night for Lincoln. It’s a fantastic free kick to open the scoring,” he said.
“Lincoln has tried to be open and expansive and Minamino’s ending is exquisite.
“Curtis Jones is going to be a top-notch player. In fairness to Lincoln, they’ve conceded four great goals.
“Liverpool choke Lincoln and turn the ball over. Lincoln has created some opportunities, but Liverpool’s work ethic is phenomenal.
“For me, the best team in the world.”
After the game, Cowley added: “Klopp has a team that he can turn to and even though he has problems in the middle, he has Fabinho, who was world class against Chelsea.
“They will want to be competitive on all fronts. What he will be most pleased about is that they have made 10 changes and performed at the level they are.
“Lincoln was more aggressive with the press in the second half. They had three or four clear chances.
“It’s a good play to score from. The keeper maybe should come and deal with it, but he doesn’t.
“I think they recruited very well. They have a fantastic football director in Jez George.
“They have recruited for the style they want to play. I think they will surprise some.”
