Former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster opened up the moment Sir Alex Ferguson gave him the full hair dryer treatment and banished him to the reserves after a series of bad performances.

United signed with Foster of Stoke City in 2005, and got his first big jump in the Red Devils first team after an injury to No. 1 Edwin van der Sar at the start of the 2009-10 season.

After several high-profile mistakes against players like Manchester City and Stoke, the veteran Premier League player was on the receiving end of Ferguson’s two takedowns.

He said to Peter Crouch’s podcast: ‘I was the second-choice goalkeeper, so I got into the team and started well, then I had some shaky games.

‘The only game he did for me was the Manchester derby, which was 4-3 for United, where Michael Owen scored the winner in the last minute.

‘I was all over the store and I remember going in full time and Sir Alex Ferguson caught me completely. We had just won the game, so everyone was buzzing, but he silenced everyone to nail me in front of everyone.

“I was thinking, ‘Wow, I don’t need that.’ He said, ‘You do that trick again, that’s what you’ve done.’

‘He was on the ground in a heap, but again Patrice Evra scored a last minute equalizer and was buzzing again, thinking thank goodness for that. But no.

Ramos We went in full time and Fergie talked to me for two or three minutes and said, “You’re done, you’re out and on the reservations, that’s it.”
