KUALA LUMPUR: Two owners of a beauty salon who were arrested for a failed liposuction that allegedly caused the death of a model were released on police bail.
The mother and daughter were taken into custody on Monday following the death of 23-year-old Coco Siew here on Saturday.
Both were released on police bail after their pre-trial detention expired yesterday.
“We referred the Investigation Document (IP) to the Deputy Prosecutor today (yesterday) with a recommendation to indict,” said Kuala Lumpur CID Chief Communications Assistant Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid when contacted yesterday.
He said the woman and daughter could be charged under Section 304A of the Penal Code for causing wrongful death.
The Health Ministry has also conducted its own investigation, he added.
Siew died when he underwent liposuction that allegedly went wrong in the salon for Cheras, who apparently was not licensed to perform medical procedures.
The model, who was to be married at the end of the year, was rushed to the hospital after her heart rate dropped after an injection of anesthesia in her arms around 2.30 pm
He died at 5 pm in the hospital.
The youngest of three siblings, Siew is said to have led a fit and healthy lifestyle and came first in an Asian modeling competition in 2014.
The tragic case broke the hearts of loved ones and once again highlighted the risks of going to unqualified personnel for medical procedures.
It is said that the future bride wanted to look good for her wedding and opted for liposuction.
Siew’s cousin had said that her marriage plans were postponed earlier due to Covid-19.
