Bayern Munich have confirmed that Liverpool have reached the £ 27m sale price for Thiago Alcantara and that a transfer could be completed in the coming days.

Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told German publication Bild: “I can confirm that Bayern and Liverpool have an agreement.

“It was Thiago’s wish at the end of his career to do something new.”

Liverpool were able to do business for a reasonable and modest fee of £ 27 million because Thiago has only nine months left on his contract.

The Reds could have signed a preliminary agreement with the 29-year-old next January.

But they have chosen to move early, as Jurgen Klopp wants additional strength in depth for his energetic midfield.

And former Reds midfielder Danny Murphy echoed Carragher’s remarks, saying: “I’m a fan of hers anyway, but Thiago in midfield for Bayern, incredible performance. [against PSG]. Brilliant, he was, on and off the ball.

“What signing will it be if Liverpool catch him. He can play a four, holding on, because he’s tough enough and athletic enough.

“Thiago reads the game very well and dictates the pace. It can slow down the game and speed it up, and not many players can do that.

“He can also play in front of someone who holds, like Fabinho, and go a little further and play the passes and be more creative.”
