More than 1,500 Covid-19 cases have been reported in Penang, including 552 in the past two weeks.

GEORGE TOWN: A major electronics factory in Bayan Lepas sent more than 600 workers home after it recorded six more new Covid-19 cases this morning.

According to an internal circular detected by FMT, the first case registered at the factory was on November 4, but six people from the close contact detection tests of the first case tested positive today.

The factory has been closed since Wednesday for disinfection, the memo read.

FMT contacted the factory for a response, but a telephone operator said no one was available to speak because “everyone has gone home.” The operator declined to say if it was due to Covid-19.

26 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported in the Mukim 12 sub-district, where the Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone is located, as of yesterday, bringing the total number of cases there to 69.

A total of 1,510 cases have been reported in Penang, including 552 in the past two weeks, of which 325 are active.
