The Baskin-Robbins store was closed for disinfection and all exposed food and packaging was discarded after the worker was confirmed to be infected with Covid-19.

PETALING JAYA: Baskin-Robbins Malaysia said today that one of its employees at Store 1 Utama had tested positive for Covid-19.

The famous American ice cream chain said the employee is currently seeking treatment at a government hospital and that the employee last worked at the establishment on October 22.

“Upon reporting symptoms, he was immediately discharged from work and has since been in quarantine.

“The establishment was also immediately closed for disinfection and all exposed food and packaging was discarded,” the company said in a statement.

Baskin-Robbins Malaysia added that the employee’s close contacts have been self-quarantined and are currently being tested.

“A separate new team will be deployed to the store only after they test negative.

“The Ministry of Health can contact customers who visited our 1 Utama point of sale between October 18 and 22, if they deem it necessary,” the company said.

Previously, 1 Utama was instructed to shut down for disinfection and sanitation reasons on October 11 after several cases were reported. The mall was reopened on October 17.

The Petaling District Disaster Management Committee had said on October 14 that there were 63 cases of Covid-19 in the mall. More than 6,000 workers and shoppers at the mall were tested.
