KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional’s stance on supporting the 2021 budget remains unchanged, says Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.

The coalition treasurer general said Barisan had previously announced his support for the Budget and that has not changed.

“If there are certain sectors that are not satisfied, in the end they have to see what the coalition has decided, then it is easy for us to look ahead.”

“If not, everyone will have their own views, feelings, and emotions.

“If we go back to what we have agreed, it will be easy for us to wait, even this Thursday (November 26),” he said, referring to the date when the budget will be put to a vote in the Dewan Rakyat.

Hishammuddin said that during Barisan’s meeting at the Umno headquarters on Monday (November 23), the coalition had discussed the current political landscape of the country.

This, he said, demonstrated that Barisan remained relevant where there was understanding, sincerity and honesty among his coalition members.

“This is a good sign because we know that the political landscape has many possibilities, but as long as we are together, we may have our differences of opinion, but we put the interest of the coalition first.

“The interest of the coalition is based on what is best for people of various races. This is Barisan’s advantage, ”he said, adding that the time has come to show his leadership not just in one race, but in all races.

Hishammuddin said that this was the strength of the coalition since its founding.

He noted that political uncertainties were not unique to Malaysia but also to other countries in the world.

“If we can show our sincerity and honesty of what we can do and show it to people, at the end of the day, people will decide on our rise and fall.

“If we can show that to people, Barisan can come out of this situation stronger today,” he said.

When asked if that meant leaving Perikatan Nasional, Hishammuddin said this must be decided now.

“The important thing is that the voters and the grassroots are the ones we should prioritize,” he said, adding that the fate of a political party is decided based on whether it can understand the aspirations of the rank and file.

MCA President Datuk Seri Dr. Wee Ka Siong also said that all party members within Barisan know their responsibility in the 2021 Budget this Thursday.

“Everyone is aware of their responsibility. If what we defend is good for the people, I think we will continue it,” he said after the meeting.

Dr. Wee said that many topics were discussed during the meeting at Umno headquarters, including internal and intra-party issues, as well as support for the 2021 Budget.

“This is a normal meeting and in this situation, we will strengthen Barisan and at the same time we will do our best for the country,” he said.

He added that Barisan remains relevant from the day the country gained independence until now.

Separately, MIC Vice President Datuk Seri M. Saravanan, who also attended the meeting, said that while discussing the direction of the coalition, they had all agreed that a special plan should be put in place to ensure Barisan remains relevant.

“We have to listen to the feelings of the rank and file and their position. We will also follow the aspirations of the coalition, ”he said.
