PUTRAJAYA: Bar and nightclub criminals accounted for the highest number of arrests by police for violations of motion control orders, with 577 people arrested on Sunday (September 27), says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said one person was arrested for failing to obey a house quarantine order, but did not provide details.

On September 27, police detained a total of 661 people for failing to comply with standard operating procedure (SOP), including not wearing face masks, not practicing social distancing, failing to provide login facilities for customers, or operating beyond the allowed hours.

Ismail said the police-led SPP compliance task force had reviewed 58,813 stores, including supermarkets (3,330), restaurants (4,181), street vendors (1,502) and 3,419 banks.

“As for Ops Benteng, the police arrested 40 illegal immigrants, five tekong (ship captains) and one human smuggler during Sunday’s operation,” it said on Monday (September 28).

Authorities also conducted 81 roadblocks across the country to control the smuggling of illegal immigrants into the country.

Ismail said that since July 24, a total of 35,344 people had returned to the country and were quarantined at designated stations, including 66 hotels across the country.

Currently, 8,235 are in quarantine, and 28,006 have been discharged and allowed to return home.

During the same period, 103 people who had returned to the country were sent to a hospital after testing positive for Covid-19.

The minister also said that since March 30, authorities have carried out more than 10,000 sanitation operations, including in business centers, housing areas, public places and government buildings.
