KUALA LUMPUR: Three more suspects, including one identified as the main suspect, have been arrested in connection with the murder of a former Mardi investigator who died defending himself against thieves at his home in Bangsar.
This brings the total of suspects arrested to 13.
Bukit Aman CID Director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed said the three men were detained separately at Jalan Genting Klang and Air Panas in Kuala Lumpur and Semenyih between 3.30 am and 5 am on Tuesday (December 1).
“The main suspect, a 23-year-old man, was among those arrested.
“He admitted cutting the victim during the robbery,” he told a news conference in Bukit Aman on Tuesday.
Police are also looking for another man, T. Sugu, 27, to help with investigations, he added.
“Initial investigations revealed that four suspects were involved in the robbery and murder in Bangsar.
“However, we believe that the others arrested are also involved in other robberies,” Comm Huzir said.
The 10 suspects previously arrested have been detained until December 6.
“We will also send the last three suspects,” he said.
10 suspects between the ages of 21 and 29 were reportedly arrested after a second robbery in Titiwangsa on the same day.
A breakdown in the case came after one of the suspects accidentally dropped a wallet belonging to the deceased victim of the first robbery.
“In the second robbery there were no injuries and the family was tied up by the robbers during the robbery at 5.15 am.
“Since the suspects were not masked, the family made a photographic sketch of the suspect,” he said.
He added that the wife of Mardi’s former investigator also successfully identified the suspects after they were captured.
“The thieves in both cases were found to be the same two suspects. The rest were found to be linked to cases, ”he said, adding that a suspect had also confessed to the crime.
Comm Huzir also said that one more suspect is still being pursued by police, but police believe these arrests have solved the cases.
On Sunday morning (November 29), two thieves broke into the home of 73-year-old Wan Hassan Wan Embong.
A fight broke out after he tried to defend himself from the thieves. This led to him being mortally wounded.
