KUALA LUMPUR: A Bangladeshi man who crossed state lines to visit friends in Genting Highlands, Pahang, ended up infecting them, leading to the newly identified cluster of Genting cases.

Chief Health Officer Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said Bangladesh was the index case for the group. He had traveled from Selangor to Genting Highlands to visit his friends and ended up infecting them.

Noor Hisham said a lockdown under an enhanced motion control order (EMCO) had been enforced at Amber Court, Ria Apartment and Rumah Kongsi Kg Semaut in Bentong.

The group was reported to have been detected in Kuala Lumpur and Pahang on December 4, involving the Titiwangsa and Bentong districts respectively. The index case (case # 66,878) was confirmed positive on December 1 through a workplace examination.

On December 9, the government decided to enforce the EMCO in the three Bentong towns from December 10 to 23.
