GEORGE TOWN: A magistrate court revoked the bail of a teenage girl charged with the murder of her newborn baby.

M. Santhiea, 18, appeared surprised when Judge Jamaliah Abd Manap said the bond was automatically revoked as the case was transferred to High Court.

Jamaliah said he made his decision after deliberating on the arguments of Deputy Prosecutor Yazid Mustaqim Roslan and Santhiea’s attorney, S. Meharaj, regarding the revocation of the bond.

Based on the decision made in the Court of Appeal, the conditional bond was posted until the case is transferred to the Superior Court.

“The case is now moved to Superior Court and the bond is revoked,” he said on Thursday (December 17).

Outside court, Meharaj said Santhiea would be placed in the Perlis correctional facility until the case is heard in High Court.

“Now we have to wait for the Superior Court date to be set to request bail,” he said.

Santhiea was accused of killing her newborn daughter at 8.25am on July 10, 2020, at Sri Ivory Apartment, Bandar Baru in Ayer Itam.

She is charged with murder under article 302 of the Penal Code, which is punishable by death when convicted.
