PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s top ferries, led by No. 1 national singles player Lee Zii Jia (pictured), will head out for a triple treat in Denmark in October, thanks to the World Federation of Federations’ revised world tour schedule. Badminton (BWF). .

If all goes according to plan, Zii Jia and a few others will participate in three consecutive tournaments in Denmark.

The tournaments are the Thomas-Uber Cup Finals in Aarhus from October 3-11 followed by the Danisa Denmark Open 1 (October 13-18) and Denmark Open 2 (October 20-25) in Odense .

While some of the players will return home after the Finals, world No. 10 Zii Jia and several others in the top 32 rankings will stay to compete in the two open tournaments that offer lucrative cash prizes – a total of US $ 750,000 (RM3 .1 thousand) in each leg.

A good performance will also improve players’ chances of appearing in the World Tour Finals in December.

The other players who will compete in all three tournaments are Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik (No. 9, men’s doubles), Soniia Cheah (No. 29, women’s singles), Chow Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean (No. 14, women’s doubles ) and Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing and Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai (No. 11 and 12, mixed doubles).

Independent shuttles Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong (14th) and Teo Ee Yi-Ong Yew Sin (15th) will also compete in the three consecutive tournaments if they are selected for the Thomas Cup Finals.

World No. 6 mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying will only compete in the two openings as they are not considered for the finals.

Badminton Association Malaysia (BAM) training director Wong Choong Hann has given the world body the go-ahead for good planning.

“We are delighted with BWF for reviewing the schedule. They have reduced the number of tournaments, but still provide opportunities for players to play in high-level competitions, ”said Choong Hann.

“They have provided room for players to breathe between tournaments and at the same time, they have taken great measures to ensure that all players are safe during these tournaments. They have also limited travel time.

“All of these needed careful planning and a lot of coordination and I am happy that the world body has presented this arrangement for the players.”

Instead of overloading players with 16 tournaments in 16 weeks, the world body has decided to host only two Opens in Europe (Denmark) and two in Asia.

The two stages in Asia will take place from November 10-15 and November 17-22, but the host country has yet to decide.

Choong Hann said that they would send their best players to all tournaments.

“Of course, it will be great if our players can do well in the three tournaments in October. For now, we are waiting for the world body to unfreeze the world rankings, then we will finalize the players for these tournaments, ”he said.

The BWF has frozen the world rankings after the All-England in March, which was the last tournament played this year before the Covid-19 ended all its activities.
