PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s challenge at the Badminton World Tour Finals in Bangkok has come to an end.
World No. 12 Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie failed to reach the mixed doubles final after being edged 19-21, 8-21 by World No. 8 Seo Seung-jae-Chae Yu-jung in the Impact Arena on Saturday (January 30).
It was Soon Huat-Shevon’s third loss in four games against the Koreans.
Soon Huat-Shevon were the last Malaysians standing after Chow Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean’s defeat in the women’s doubles semi-finals the previous Saturday.
Mei Kuan-Meng Yean faced Korean opponents Lee So-hee-Shin Sheung-chan 14-21, 15-21.
Both Soon Huat-Shevon and Mei Kuan-Meng Yean still left with a paycheck for $ 30,000 (RM121,000) for their efforts.
Without Malaysian players reaching the final, the country will now go five years without a winner in the season-ending event.
Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong were the last Malaysians to emerge champions at the 2016 final in Dubai.
