BACHOK (Bernama): A man, believed to have killed his own eight-month-old baby whose body was found smeared with salt and stored in a sack in a house here on Tuesday (October 13), had to be carried by five policemen. in Magistrates Court for his remand proceedings on Wednesday after he refused to do so.

The police vehicle carrying the 40-year-old man arrived at the court complex at 9.20 a.m., but he played dumb and refused to get out of the vehicle even after several policemen persuaded him for 10 minutes.

This prompted a police officer to remove him from the vehicle. Then five other policemen picked him up and took him to the courtroom.

Magistrate Mohd Dinie Syazwan Ab Shukor issued a seven-day remand order against the man, beginning to facilitate a further investigation into the murder of the baby under article 302 of the Penal Code.

On Tuesday, police found the baby’s body in a sack under the kitchen table of a home in Kampung Sungai Dua, Melawi, and arrested the man for investigation.

Kelantan DCP Police Chief Shafien Mamat said the autopsy revealed that the baby had suffered head injuries that could have been the result of a hit or fall.

He said the autopsy was carried out at Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital and was completed around 4 a.m.

Shafien said that based on the way the baby died, police did not rule out the possibility that the father was involved in deviant teachings. The father was also said to have heard “voices” and had been hallucinating before committing the crime.

“The man had not said a word for us to record his statement,” he told reporters.

The 32-year-old mother of the baby, who had bruises on her body and was traumatized by the incident, was also arrested, but was sent to the Bachok Health Center for treatment.

Shafien said the couple tested negative for drugs. – Bernama
