TUARAN: Perikatan Nasional’s chief information officer, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, has endorsed Sulaman’s candidate, Datuk Hajiji Noor, as the best option for the post of prime minister should he emerge victorious in the state elections.

The Chief Minister said this during a meeting at PDM Tambalang, Kampung Bolong Baru in Tuaran on Tuesday (September 15).

Azmin, who is also Minister of International Trade and Industry, further challenged Warisan Plus Acting Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal to come to Tuaran and engage in a debate with Hajiji to determine who is the best candidate to lead Sabah. .

“After hearing him (Hajiji) deliver his speech, I think he is truly qualified to be the Sabah CM.

“This is not only my opinion, but also that of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

“Sabah needs a figure (tokoh) like CM and that is none other than Hajiji.

“Yes, he (Hajiji) has served the Sulaman constituency for seven terms, but for us and the younger generation, we still need his service as an experienced elected representative,” Azmin said.

If Shafie did not take over the welfare of the Sabahans, then he should hand over the position to Hajiji, Azmin added at the event attended by Perikatan Nasional supporters.

When asked to comment on Barisan Nasional saying that the prime minister’s position should only be discussed after the state elections, Azmin said: “That is the position taken by Umno and BN, but certainly for Perikatan, we have a strong candidate, a clean candidate, and I think he should have the opportunity to lead Sabah after the elections.

“We need to assure the Sabahans that this is the future of the state, we have a strong candidate who can lead the state,” he said.

When asked if there had been any follow-up discussions on the matter with BN and Umno, he said it was the prime minister’s prerogative and did not elaborate.

Earlier in his speech, Azmin also lamented the failure of the interim state government to ensure reliable Internet connectivity in this state.

“We don’t want the youth of Kudat to have to climb a tree (to connect), why didn’t the state government expand the broadband facilities there?

“In the end, they needed to look for infrastructure in the Federal Government.

“So last week, the Prime Minister came to Sabah and met with Veveonah Mosibin and his family, where he also assured that the government will improve the infrastructure here.

“How can we let Sabah lag behind in technology? Young people here have potential and we must provide encouragement by providing the infrastructure, we want them to prosper and have a good future, “said Azmin.
