THE authorities will investigate Petaling Jaya Old Town residents ’claim that foreign workers moved out before the enhanced movement control order (MCO) was imposed.
The residents alleged that the workers had left their places of dwelling for fear of being detected by the authorities before the lockdown on Saturday midnight.
Petaling District Officer Johary Anuar said they would try to locate the said foreigners to carry out Covid-19 testing.
“When the authorities made house visits to distribute food supplies, residents claimed that some of the migrant workers who lived in their neighborhood were no longer around,” said Johary.
On the other hand, Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said the residents’ claim could be mere perception.
Many foreigners are still there and were tested. They were both documented and undocumented workers, ”he said.
As for the Covid-19 screening, Johary said around 95% of those living in Zone C in Petaling Jaya Old Town had been screened Monday afternoon. This consisted of 271 residents.

As of Sunday, 241 people from Zone A who make up 23% of residents, and 177 residents from Zone B (15%) were tested. Others would be tested by today, added Johary.
He said there was no shortage of food supply as residents had received food baskets donated by their MPs and assemblymen.
Bukit Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran said his office would donate raw food such as vegetables to residents with the approval from the authorities today.
“I would like to thank the authorities, especially the Welfare Department, for assisting with the food aid distribution in an organized manner.
“They did such a great job together with the assistants of the army, police and the Petaling Jaya City Council,” he said. Section 3 resident S. Sathia Seelan Sharma, 41, said his family of seven, including his three toddlers, and his elderly parents were tested for the virus.
“The testing was fast and it was done at the bus station area. I also saw foreigners being tested there, ”I added.
PJ Old Town is the eighth area to be placed under enhanced MCO.
Barbed wire fencing has been installed in the area, closing off three zones to outsiders.
This came after Pasar Besar Jalan Othman came under lockdown earlier.
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the order would be in place there for two weeks until May 23.
The move came following 26 positive cases detected in the area.
