Authorities take tough action on those who violate Covid-19 procedures

PETALING JAYA: Authorities continue to last with those who violate Covid-19 procedures, with 66 people receiving compounds and two people in pretrial detention in the last 24 hours.

They did not wear masks, they did not follow physical distancing or record personal data at the entrance of the business premises. Some of them also did not pay their mandatory quarantine accommodation bills.

In a statement, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that two illegal immigrants were also detained yesterday.

The controls were carried out in supermarkets, restaurants, street vending centers, factories, banks and government offices. Transportation hubs and terminals were also monitored to ensure that all Malaysians and foreigners followed standard operating procedures to stop the transmission of the coronavirus.

At the borders, maritime officials controlled 120 foreigners and detained nine illegal immigrants at Pengkalan Kubor in Kelantan and another five at Bandar Penawar in Johor for failing to show proper documents.

The statement said the team also seized three boats, two boats and four vehicles during border checks. A total of 79 highway blocks were placed nationwide to prevent illegal immigrants from entering the country.

Ismail also said that since July 24, 29,438 people had entered the country and of those 19,630 had been allowed to return to their homes. They were placed in 72 different hotels and another eight facilities in various institutes nationwide for mandatory quarantine.
