Asri Hamidon is new secretary general of the Treasury

Asri Hamidon has been appointed Secretary General of the Treasury, effective May 1.

The chief government secretary, Mohd Zuki Ali, said Asri (Photo) was replacing Ahmad Badri Mohd Zahir whose contract had expired.

Asri, 54, has a bachelor’s degree in economics from the Malaysian University and a master’s degree in economics from the University of Hiroshima, Japan.

He served in the public service for 26 years after joining as assistant director in the Economic Planning Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department on June 1, 1994.

Mohd Zuki said Asri has vast experience in the field of finance and strategic investment throughout his service career.

He also held various positions in the Ministry of Finance, including the Assistant Secretary-General for the Treasury (Politics); Secretary of the Government Investment Companies Division and undersecretary of the Privatization Division and Minister of Finance, Secretary of Finance.

“Hopefully, with this appointment, he will lead the Ministry of Finance to continue seeking excellence in the country’s financial and economic management.”

Mohd Zuki, on behalf of the government, expressed his appreciation to Ahmad Badri for his contributions and service to the civil service and the nation for more than 31 years. – Bernama
