SIBU (October 15): The 37-year-old woman, whose body was found partially stuffed inside a suitcase in Jalan Aman here on October 6, is believed to have resisted when she was beaten and strangled by her attackers, said the head of Sibu Police, ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit.
He said this was based on an autopsy performed by Dr. Norliza Ibrahim, a forensic medicine expert at Sarawak General Hospital.
The procedure on the victim identified as Heng Meow Lin was carried out on Tuesday at 7.45 pm at Sibu Hospital here, he said.
“Dr. Norliza discovered that the cause of death for the victim was asphyxia (due to) neck compression with head injury (due to) blunt force trauma.
“The victim showed signs consistent with someone trying to defend himself,” he said when contacted via WhatsApp today.
Stanley said police were still investigating the motive for the case.
He added that the pre-trial detention of the two suspects, a man and a woman, both 38, who are known to the victim, had been extended until October 19 after it expired on Wednesday.
The victim was found by a passerby around 6.30am on the side of the Jalan Aman road. She was fully clothed with her body from the waist down inside the suitcase.
Bruises were found on his face and neck, and he is believed to have died hours before the body was discovered.
Two handwritten notes were found on him.
The suspects were picked up from a house in Jalan Tong Sang at 3.45 pm the same day.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
