PETALING JAYA: A daring robbery on the Besraya Highway in Kuala Lumpur last night saw armed robbers escape with gold and cash from a gold dealer.

Police said the incident occurred at 3.35 pm when a gold distributor salesman traveling with a friend who was driving a van from Kuchai Lama to Sungai Besi was stopped on the road by two other black vans.

Three “big” men wearing ski masks and armed with parangs approached the vehicle and smashed its windows.

“They dragged the seller and the driver out of the vehicle before leaving with the vehicle and all the gold and cash that was in it,” Brickfields Police Chief Zairulnizam Mohd Zainuddin said in a statement.

He said the total amount of losses was being determined.

The seller and his friend, who were heading to various gold shops in the city, sustained minor injuries when they were dragged out of their vehicle.

Zairulnizam said that the hijacked van was later found burned in Damansara, Petaling Jaya.

Police are tracking the thieves and urged those with information to contact the investigating officer at 03-22979222.
