PETALING JAYA: The Royal Malaysian Air Force (TUDM) and the Armed Forces of Malaysia (ATM) will join forces in an effort to ease the growing demand for medical assistance following the rapid spread of the Covid-19 virus in Sabah.

Chief Minister (Defense) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today that ATM agreed to activate its field hospital in Tawau to provide support services to treat other cases, including trauma, surgery, emergencies, delivery rooms and others.

He said this decision was made after the Ministry of Health (MoH) spoke of the need to have other medical facilities in Sabah so that hospitals in Tawau can focus on the growing number of Covid-19 cases there.

Ismail Sabri said that the ATM hospital would provide 100 beds in various wards, with eight medical officers and 54 other staff members, consisting of a commander, five medical specialists, three medical officers and other staff.

As for the air force, he said that due to the limited number of labs available in the state to analyze swab samples taken from suspected Covid-19 patients, TUDM will also conduct daily round-trip flights between Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia to carry the samples. get tested.
