PETALING JAYA: DAP’s Gobind Singh Deo has questioned the silence of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on allegations of corruption within the police force.
In a Facebook post, Gobind said it was an “unprecedented” case, as it was Police Inspector General Abdul Hamid Bador who publicly declared that there were corrupt practices in the force.
“Doesn’t the MACC want to investigate and get to the truth behind these accusations?” I ask.
Puchong’s deputy said that MACC chief Azam Baki should speak up, as the matter had become a topic of public discussion.
He said MACC must act without fear or favor, especially in cases that could affect the integrity of enforcement agencies.
“Silence is not an option. Azam Baki must explain how he will address the problem and if there is no plan to do so, he must explain why,” he said.
Gobind reiterated his request for Hamid to submit an official report for further investigations.
He also noted that investigations into corruption could be carried out under the MACC Act, if a commission official had a valid reason to suspect a crime, either through a report or information received.
Previously, Hamid had revealed that a group of younger policemen had formed a cartel to dominate the force and overthrow him.
According to him, the cartel ensured that its collaborators were offered promotions so that they could dominate the force and the police hierarchy, which made it easier for them to carry out their “dirty work”.
