PETALING JAYA: There will be no public masses in the Klang Valley during the Christmas season as the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur intensifies its efforts to protect itself against future Covid-19 infections.
Archbishop Julian Leow has decided that public Masses in all parishes in the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur will be suspended from Christmas Eve on December 24 to Ephiphany on January 3.
In a statement issued by Archdiocesan Chancellor Father Michael Chua, Archbishop Leow said that while the church has taken the necessary steps to prevent the spread of the disease, such measures would be inadequate, especially to handle a large crowd.
“Due to the relaxation of interstate travel restrictions and the expected increase in visitors returning to their places of origin or traveling during the
Holidays, contact lists, and pre-registration for Masses can be extremely difficult, if not impossible.
“Although the National Security Council (NSC) and state authorities may choose to relax their restrictions, the increase in sporadic cases and the appearance of new clusters in recent weeks increases the risk of transmission in large closed-door meetings. as a mass public, “he said in a statement.
The decision will affect some 40 churches and 20 chapels in the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur.
Archbishop Leow also encouraged parishioners to follow Masses online via https://Tv.ArchKL.org and reminded Catholics to be vigilant in keeping themselves and their loved ones safe from Covid-19 .
