Mohamed Hanipa Maidin (left) believes that Amanah Chairman Mohamad Sabu may not have had time to convey Anwar Ibrahim’s message to party MPs.

PETALING JAYA: Amanah MPs rose to push for a bloc vote on the budget yesterday because they did not receive the message from opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim to allow it to pass at the political stage, Sepang MP Mohamed Hanipa said Maidin.

In a Facebook post, Hanipa gave her version of events about what happened in Parliament, when the majority of the opposition MPs had opted against an individual vote for the approval of the budget.

Hanipa said that Amanah President Mohamad Sabu and Vice President Mujahid Yusof did not stand out out of respect for Anwar’s instructions or the spirit of solidarity with Pakatan Harapan (PH).

“The president of Amanah, we believe, may not have had the time or overlooked the message from the leader of the opposition to the Amanah MPs.

“Therefore, for the Amanah MPs, we were sure that there was no problem in supporting Pokok Sena (Mahfuz Omar) yesterday,” he said, adding that it was a “spontaneous action.”

Even though the budget was approved at the policy stage, Hanipa said, the government was not “out of the woods yet,” as there were still discussions at the committee stage, which will take place from Monday.

“Regarding the procedure, the approval of the budget is determined by the third reading of the Supply Law Project (2021). That day, God willing, will be ‘the grand finale’, ”Hanipa said.

The budget was approved by oral vote after Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz presented it for a second reading. Hanipa was one of the 13 deputies who stood up.
