PETALING JAYA: PKR has agreed and will abide by the decision made by Sabah’s dominant coalition, Warisan Plus, that the party compete for only seven seats in Sabah’s state assembly elections, PKR President Anwar Ibrahim said.

“We call on all our members in Sabah and other states to accept the decision, no matter how difficult it is,” he said today in an interview with Bernama.

Warisan Plus is an alliance of Warisan, PKR, DAP, Amanah, United Progressive Kinabalu Organization (Upko).

Anwar said he wanted the seven PKR candidates to be the voices of the majority of the people of Sabah.

“The party (PKR) has a great future and potential. Despite the discomfort and disappointment felt in the bases when the decision on the allocation of seats did not turn out as we wanted, we will comply with it to demonstrate understanding of unity, ”he said.

On PKR’s chances of winning and retaining the seats in Sabah, Anwar said the party’s responsibility was not only to secure victory in all seven seats, but also to secure victory in all seats contested by its allies in Warisan Plus.

He said he had called discussions with all PKR deputies and state leaders in Sarawak and on the peninsula to help the party’s electoral machinery in Sabah.

“Yes (we can win) … we will try our best to win,” he said.

Regarding the candidates, Anwar said that they will be made up of people of integrity and qualified and capable of winning the hearts of the people, not those who are “bought” easily or without principles.

Prior to this, Sabah PKR’s chief information officer, Simsudin Sidek, had announced that the party would contest 14 seats in the state elections on September 26.

However, Warisan Chairman Mohd Shafie Apdal announced yesterday that the PKR would be allocated only seven seats: Api-Api, to be challenged by the PKR head of state, Christina Liew Chin Jin; Inanam (Peto Galim); Tempasuk (Mustapha Sakmud); Tamparuli (Alijus Sipli); Matunggong (Sazalye Donol Abdullah); Klias (Abdul Rahman Md Yakub); and Sook (Raymond Ahuar).

Klias and Sook are new seats assigned to PKR, while the other five are those disputed by the party in the 2018 general elections.
