Anwar questions Prime Minister’s silence on King’s statement on Parliament session

Anwar Ibrahim has accused Muhyiddin Yassin’s coalition of using dishonest tactics to buy out MPs.

PETALING JAYA: A day after two PKR MPs pledged their support to Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim today questioned his continued silence on the King’s declaration that Parliament could meet during the current emergency.

The PKR chairman said that it has been almost a week since Istana Negara issued the statement of Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

Why is there no statement from the prime minister as a sign of respecting the King’s statement?

“Before this, the government had been informing the rakyat that the emergency was declared by the King and therefore cannot be questioned,” Anwar said in a live video on his Facebook page.

The Port Dickson MP said that this shows that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government still does not have a majority to govern the country, “so much so that they need to buy out several MPs.”

Yesterday, Julau MP Larry Sng and Tebrau MP Steven Choong resigned from PKR and pledged their support for Muhyiddin.

PKR won 48 parliamentary seats in GE14 but now has 36 seats.

Anwar claimed that Muhyiddin’s coalition is using dishonest tactics to buy MPs “in any way they can to get support before Parliament reconvenes.”

On January 12 a national emergency was declared that included the suspension of the parliamentary session until August of this year.

Anwar said that a parliamentary session will help raise and debate issues about unemployment, the economy and lower investments due to lack of confidence in the government.
