COVID-19 | The country registered 871 new cases of Covid-19 today, marking another record for the second day in a row since the start of the pandemic in January, according to the director general of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah.
A total of 869 new cases were recorded yesterday. Today’s new cases bring accumulated infections to date to 20,498.
Noor Hisham, speaking at a press conference in Putrajaya tonight, also reported seven deaths today.
The seven new deaths are as follows:
Case 13,525 (Death 181): 61 years in Sabah, died in Queen Elizabeth Hospital. No pre-existing conditions.
Case 12,984 (Death 182): 70 years in Sabah, died in Tawau Hospital. I had high blood pressure.
Case 13,706 (Death 183): 57 years in Sabah, died in Queen Elizabeth Hospital. He had high blood pressure.
Case 20,328 (Death 184): 55 years in Sabah, died in Duchess of Kent Hospital. I had high blood pressure.
Case 20,329 (Death 185): 41 years in Sabah, died in Tawau Hospital. No pre-existing conditions.
Case 17,779 (Death 186): 44 years in Sabah, died at Duchess of Kent Hospital. He had heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and dyslipidemia.
Case 20,401 (Death 187): 46 years in Selangor, died in an undisclosed hospital. He had no pre-existing conditions.
The number of Covid-19 patients undergoing treatment also surpassed the 7,000 mark for the first time, now standing at 7,049 patients.
There are a total of 86 Covid-19 patients undergoing treatment in an intensive care unit (ICU), 28 of whom need a ventilator to breathe.
On the other hand, the country also registered 701 recoveries today, the highest number of discharges in one day to date.
Of the 871 new cases today, 866 are transmitted locally while five were imported.

Today’s four new groups include the Soul cluster involving Seberang Perai Selatan and Seberang Perai Tengah districts in Penang, Automatic cluster involving Petaling, Kuala Langat and Klang districts in Selangor and Seremban in Negeri Sembilan.
The other two groups are Kepayan Prison Group in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Y Bah Layangan cluster in Labuan.
In detailing the situation in Sabah, which is the most serious, Noor Hisham said the state has recorded a total of 7,439 cases to date.
He added that a total of 251,030 people in the state have been tested. Sabah has a positive rate of 2.96 percent.
