PETALING JAYA: A new cluster of Covid-19 has been found in Sabah, adding to the growing number of cases in the state.

The new group, called the Selamat group, was found in Semporna, where a 32-year-old Malaysian tested positive on September 14.

In a statement, Chief Health Officer Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said the patient had undergone a swab test at Tawau Hospital before giving birth.

Through tests on close contacts, they found that a medical officer who had treated her was infected, she said.

As of September 17, 118 people in this group had been screened and 116 people are awaiting the test result.

Noor Hisham said that sanitation work has been carried out in infected areas and an investigation is underway on the causes of the infection.

New cases continue to be reported in Sabah after undocumented immigrants tested positive in the state.
