PETALING JAYA: Another Covid-19 cluster was identified in Sabah today, adding to the growing number of cases and clusters in the state.

The new group, called the Bakau group, was detected in Semporna.

The first case in the cluster was the Filipino woman who died yesterday.

In a statement, Chief Health Officer Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said two close contacts of the deceased had tested positive for the virus. They were Malaysian and Filipino.

Both have been admitted to Tawau Hospital for treatment.

“At noon today, 109 people have been examined. Three tested positive and 106 people are still awaiting their test results.

“At the Semporna Hospital, prevention measures have been carried out, including disinfection and cleaning processes. The source of infection is still under investigation, ”he said.

Meanwhile, the Sungai group’s eight new cases in Kedah brought the group’s total number of infections to 73.

As of September 19, 23,935 people had been screened in the group, which comprises 23,748 people in Kedah, 142 from Penang and 45 from Perlis.

A total of 732 people in Kedah are still waiting for their test results, while only 16 people in Perlis and one in Penang are waiting for their results.

The only new case in Benteng’s LD group in Sabah raised the count to 551 cases, with 7,985 people tested for the virus as of noon today.

A total of 1,456 people in Tawau and 552 in Lahad Datu are still waiting for their test results.

“Close contact assessments and active case-finding efforts for these groups are still ongoing and the public will be informed of the latest status from time to time,” said Noor Hisham.
