PUTRAJAYA: The wife of an agent of a shipping company, a case under the MV Glen cluster, also contracted Covid-19, says the Ministry of Health.

Tan Sri Chief Health Officer Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said the 39-year-old woman tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday (September 2), following the ministry’s screening process.

With that, the MV Glen cluster, which was detected in Port Klang, Selangor, has three confirmed cases so far.

Dr. Noor Hisham said that as of September 2, the ministry has screened 58 people related to this group.

Of that total, 16 tested negative, while another 39 are still awaiting their results.

The index case (patient 9,286) in this group is a member of a ship’s crew who was declared positive for the virus on August 25.

Dr. Noor Hisham said that the ministry and the Department of the Navy had taken many steps to monitor and strengthen the country’s borders in their waters.

This, he said, included the process of changing members of the ship’s crew, starting from the process of logging in and out on ships, as well as the mandatory quarantine order required by the government.

“The health control at the beginning and end of the session is important since this is one of the international border controls that is carried out to prevent the transmission of Covid-19 to our country from abroad.

“Many standard operating procedures (SOPs) and guidelines have been developed for those on the shipping line entering Malaysia from abroad.

“This process will continue to be monitored and improved from time to time to ensure smooth execution,” said Dr. Noor Hisham.
