PETALING JAYA: The latest Covid-19 infections reached 1,208 cases, with more than half recorded in the Klang Valley.
The 661 cases recorded yesterday in the Klang Valley surpassed those in Sabah.
For the third day in a row, Malaysia saw another four-figure increase in daily infections, with Kuala Lumpur recording 475 new cases, including six imported cases, and 185 in Selangor.
By comparison, Sabah, which is largely seen as the epicenter of the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country, recorded 381 cases.
Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said other states that registered new cases were Negri Sembilan (48), Penang (42), Labuan (30), Perak (21), Johor (nine), Kedah (eight ), Sarawak (four), Melaka (two) and one in Kelantan, Putrajaya and Perlis.
Altogether, the Klang Valley recorded 661 new cases yesterday (54.7% of the total), and the Damanlela group of construction sites in Kuala Lumpur recorded 460 cases.
No new cases were reported in Terengganu and Pahang.
The six imported cases came from India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Indonesia.
This brings the total cumulative number of cases in the country to 47,417, with the number of active cases in the country to 12,323.
The country yesterday reported three new deaths from Covid-19, all from Sabah, bringing the country’s death toll to 309.
Dr. Noor Hisham said in a statement that one of the new deaths was that of an eight-year-old girl from Tawau Hospital.
The other two cases were reported at Duchess of Kent Hospital involving a 77-year-old man who had a history of high blood pressure, heart disease, and kidney disease, as well as a 63-year-old woman who had diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease.
A total of 1,013 patients were discharged, bringing the total number of people who have recovered from Covid-19 in the country to 34,785 or 73.4% of all infections.
Currently, 104 people are being treated in intensive care units, and 42 of these patients require respiratory assistance.
He also noted that three new groups had been identified.
The Plaza group in Kota Kinabalu recorded 12 cases as of yesterday, while the Jalan Kalabakan group in Tawau recorded 22 cases.
The Jeri cluster in Kota Tinggi, Mersing and Muar districts in Johor had 26 cases linked to it as of yesterday.
Dr. Noor Hisham also stated that Bah Arnab’s group in Kuching had ended.
The group had identified 12 positive cases with no deaths.
