PETALING JAYA: Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa will not receive a fine made up of allegedly violating a motion control order (MCO) rule for the time being, although a photograph of him with several others at a dining room table had been gone viral.
Instead, your case will be referred to the Attorney General (AGC).
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Saiful Azly Kamaruddin said that even though Annuar had provided his statement on the matter yesterday, the police are still collecting statements from others to obtain more facts and evidence about the case.
“Annuar’s statement was taken for two hours (yesterday) and an investigation is underway under the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act of 1988 for disobeying SOPs (standard operating procedures),” Saiful Azly said after a feature for retired police personnel today.
“So if you ask if you have been fined 1,000 RM or not, it has not been done yet.
“This is because when you open a research document, we first have to collect all the evidence. We will refer to the AGC for the next course of action. “
He added that the case was not as easy as “just pay RM1,000 and it’s settled.”
In a photo widely shared on social media on Saturday, Annuar was seen dining at the same table with six other people during a visit to a community center project in Cheras on Friday.
Under MCO regulations, only two people can sit at a table when eating out.
In a Facebook post, Annuar, the former secretary general of Barisan Nasional, said that he only “sat for a moment” and walked away after realizing that the organizers had not followed standard operating procedures to prevent the spread of Covid- 19.
