PUTRAJAYA: Up to eight more opposition MPs can change their allegiances to Perikatan Nasional, says Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

Without naming anyone, the former secretary general of Barisan Nasional said his decision could be announced in the coming days, following the departure of Kuala Langat Datuk MP Dr. Xavier Jayakumar.

“I understand that there are seven or eight other parliamentarians who have indicated that they are willing to support the government.

“The most important thing is that if this government performs, there will be more people ready to support us,” he told reporters after a walk at the City and Anjung Floria Young Entrepreneurs Kiosk in Putrajaya on Saturday (March 13).

Annuar said that the government was not perfect, but that it was committed to fulfilling its responsibilities and addressing Covid-19, as well as ensuring racial harmony and political stability.

“There are shortcomings, but in these difficult circumstances, the government is doing well. You can see the results,” he said.

Annuar also said Malaysia’s strategy to combat Covid-19 was recognized internationally because it “achieves a balance in life and livelihood,” adding that economic recovery was “on track.”

“So if these ‘friends’ want to support Perikatan, it is not surprising,” he added.

Annuar refused to reveal the identities of the opposition MPs and the parties of which they are members.

“If I mention it, some people will deny it.

Giving a vague analogy, he said that politics was like the law of physics.

“For every action, there will be an equal and opposite reaction,” he said.

“For me, now is the time to strengthen unity, rather than destabilize (the country). We must work together to address people’s problems instead of talking politics all day,” he added.

Earlier on Saturday (March 13), Dr. Xavier announced his decision to resign as a member and vice president of the PKR with immediate effect.

The former Minister of Water, Lands and Natural Resources said he was leaving the party he joined in 1998 because he was “extremely frustrated” by the events of last year, and said the focus now should be to support the government and fight Covid- 19. , don’t work against each other.

Dr. Xavier was recently embroiled in a controversy when his close friend, Perak PKR Deputy Chief MA Tingaran, was detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for questioning.

PKR Secretary General Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said that Dr. Xavier’s decision to leave PKR raised many questions, claiming that the Kuala Langat MP had recently informed PKR leaders that MACC had made him the target of research.

He also alleged that there were efforts by the government to gain the support of opposition parliamentarians by provoking them or using threats through the police, the Internal Revenue Board and the MACC.
