LOS ANGELES: Two Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) deputies were shot in the city of Compton Saturday night, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department tweeted.
“A deputy and a deputy were ambushed while sitting in their patrol vehicle,” the tweet read.
“They both suffered multiple gunshot wounds and are in critical condition.” They are currently being treated.
An individual was seen approaching the officers’ car, firing shots at the car and fleeing, according to LASD video.
In reaction to the incident, US President Donald Trump retweeted the video and wrote: “Animals that must be hit hard!”
According to authorities, images of the incident were recovered from a nearby subway station in Compton.
The suspect is on the run.
“At this point, we have a very, very generic description of a dark-skinned man and it comes from one of the victims,” Capt. Kent Wegener said at a news conference.
