An error leads to the arrest of 10

KUALA LUMPUR: A “wallet error” by one of the suspects involved in the robbery and murder of a former investigator at his home in Bangsar here has led to the arrest of 10 people.

The suspect had dumped the deceased’s wallet at another crime scene.

The wallet containing an identification card belonging to the victim was located by police at a second crime scene after they responded to another house-breaking incident in Titiwangsa on Sunday.

Successful arrests of the suspects were also facilitated when the two suspects who committed the two robberies did not wear face masks.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Comm Datuk Saiful Azly Kamaruddin said family members at the home in Titiwangsa were tied up during the second robbery at 5.15am.

“The thieves are believed to have entered through a window that was opened. The losses were estimated at around RM38,000, ”he said yesterday at a press conference at the headquarters of the police contingent here.

The victims of the Titiwangsa robbery and the wife of the deceased in the Bangsar case later managed to identify the robbers through a police sketch.

He said the two robbers were believed to be responsible for both robberies, while the other eight suspects had ties to the cases.

Communicator Saiful Azly said police were still chasing one more suspect.

He added that the suspects, aged between 20 and 29, have been in preventive detention for seven days, while police continue to search for the weapon used in the murder.

Police also seized stolen items at various locations after arrests were made at a condominium in Jalan Sultan Ismail.

He added that the eight suspects, who were doing odd jobs, had criminal records.

On Sunday, a former researcher at the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (Mardi), Dr. Wan Hassan Wan Embong (pictured), 73, was stabbed with a parang while trying to fight off thieves, who broke into the window from the kitchen of your two-story bungalow in Bukit Bandaraya.

His wife, Sarifah Yusof, 70, had cut injuries to her right hand.
